My sister, my two nephews and I, scaled Scafell together recently. The day was overcast and the fog descended as we made our way up to the peak. I used to come to the Lake District a lot when I was young and have been up this route before. I was at an age where I don’t remember the individual walks. All I remember was that I loved coming to these mountains, running up and down them, playing in the waterfalls and camping. It was great to make the ascent with my two nephews, aged 5 and 7, watching them bound up from rock to rock. I hope they grow up to have the same fondness for this place as I still do.
